Analysis: The announcement came a day after coach Rex Ryan said it's possible that Ragland had a torn ligament. He added the medical staff couldn't make an exact determination until the swelling subsided. Ragland was hurt during practice Friday while going after the ball carrier. He pulled up and went to the ground without being hit. Buffalo's second-round draft pick out of Alabama was projected to start at one of the two inside linebacker positions.

Analysis: Ragland, the Bills' second-round pick in this year's draft who already been named the expected starter at inside linebacker alongside Preston Brown, was pursuing running back Reggie Bush toward the sideline on a play during practice Friday when he pulled up and went to the ground.

Analysis: The Bills traded up eight spots in the draft to select the Alabama prospect and 2015 SEC defensive player of the year with the 41st pick. Ragland was two-year starter and was a unanimous All-American, leading the Crimson Tide with 102 tackles last year, including 60 solo.
