Analysis: San Francisco was hoping Jones could develop into one of Alex Smith's favorite targets after missing much of the 2009 season with a broken bone in his shoulder. Jones played in eight games and finished with just one catch after the 49ers gave him a $16.6 million deal in free agency. Jones was released by the 49ers last Wednesday.
