Analysis: The reliever's contract was selected from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, and he will earn $1,725,137 for the remaining 77 days of the season, the prorated share of his $4.1 million contract. His deal includes performance bonuses of $250,000 each for 20, 25, 30 and 35 games pitched, and $750,000 apiece for 20, 25, 30 and 35 games finished. The 35-year-old righty agreed to a minor league contract with the Cubs on June 12 and pitched seven games.

Analysis: Following Sunday's 4-1 victory over Atlanta, Maddon said that Soriano will return to the majors after pitching a combined seven games at Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. Chicago signed the 35-year-old Soriano to a pro-rated contract on June 12. Soriano, a former closer with the Braves, Yankees, Rays and Nationals, is 22-28 with a 2.85 ERA and 207 saves in 585 career games. He saved 32 games in 39 chances last year for Washington.
