Analysis: Lackey (1-1) got his first win since Aug. 23, 2011. He missed all of 2012 after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, then spent most of the opening month on the disabled list with a strained right biceps. He struck out four and walked two.

Analysis: Farrell says an MRI showed inflammation but no tear in Lackey's biceps. The manager said before Monday's home opener against Baltimore that it's unlikely Lackey will make his start on Friday.

Analysis: Lackey struck out five and walked two in five innings Saturday while the Red Sox's big league club was beating the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 in Port Charlotte. Lackey says he felt great. He hasn't pitched at least five innings since Sept. 25, 2011, against the Yankees. Lackey missed all of last season after having elbow-reconstruction surgery. Red Sox pitching coach Juan Nieves said Lackey is throwing from 89-92 mph - good news for fantasy owners.
