Analysis: New York optioned right-hander Collin McHugh to its top farm team Saturday to make room for Aardsma, who saved 69 games for Seattle from 2009-10 before sitting out the 2011 season due to hip and elbow operations. He had Tommy John surgery in July 2011 and made it back to the majors for one game last September with the New York Yankees.

Analysis: The former Seattle Mariners closer signed with New York on Monday after opting out of his minor league deal with the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. He was 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA for Triple-A New Orleans. The 31-year-old Aardsma missed all of 2011 when he had offseason hip surgery and then an elbow ligament replacement operation that July.
