Analysis: This was one of his best starts since his return to the majors from Tommy John surgery. ''I've been out for so long, so this is kind of the middle of the season for me,'' Skaggs said. ''I need to get up to 100 pitches (and) seven or eight innings. I need to stop throwing as many pitches as I do. But there's progress.''

Analysis: After putting together two outstanding starts in his return from Tommy John surgery, Skaggs was shelled for 19 runs and 29 hits over 17 2/3 innings while going 0-3 through his next four. Despite Sunday's strong effort, the lefty will be a risky play when he next takes the mound Saturday in Seattle.
