Analysis: Gray, who originally hurt the big toe on his left foot during spring training, said he reinjured it while leaping to snag a high hopper in the second inning. Now this is much worse news. He'll miss about a month.

Analysis: This was a big improvement over his first start, when he gave up five runs in just four innings at Milwaukee.

Analysis: Gray ran into trouble in the fifth, loading the bases for Villar, who made it 4-2 with a double to the gap in left before Thames tied it up with a two-bagger to right, bringing Gray's day to an early end. Gray will make his next start Saturday at home against the Dodgers. In two August starts against Los Angeles at Coors Field last season, Gray allowed six hits while striking out 14 and walking five over 11 scoreless innings.

Analysis: Gray has come along quickly since being the third overall pick in the 2013 draft. He went 10-10 with a 4.61 ERA in 29 starts last year, striking out 185 in 168 innings.

Analysis: Gray went 2 2/3 innings against San Francisco and gave up five runs before exiting the game. He could be the team's starter when the season opens April 3 in Milwaukee. The third overall pick in 2013, Gray went 10-10 with a 4.61 ERA last season.
