PHOENIX (AP) Jeff Locke had handcuffed the Arizona Diamondbacks before, holding them to two runs in eight innings on July 1. And after three innings, he was rolling again.
The left-hander struck out All-Star Paul Goldschmidt with the bases loaded to end the third inning with his team up 2-0. However, Arizona tied it in the third, before going ahead two innings later. After Pittsburgh tied it in the sixth, things unraveled for Locke in the bottom of the inning.
Pinch-hitter Andy Marte hit a tiebreaking two-run homer and Aaron Hill added a solo shot to lead the Diamondbacks to a 7-4 win over the Pirates on Thursday night.
